The Statue of the Sentinel of Freedom is an imaginative figure of Lapulapu, the chieftain of Maktan who resisted the Spanish promise of friendship ang subjugation while other local leaders were accommodating. This monument is a work of Juan Sajid Imao.

A collection of busts by Guillermo Tolentino is a feature in the National Museuym of Fine Arts, with a whole gallery dedicated to it. This one is an imagined face of Lapulapu, a chieftain of Mactan Island when the Spaniards first arrived in group of islands later to be coalesced as the Philippines.
